Oficer Bernard Anderson Oficer Bernard Anderson
A 37-Year Veteran, "Officer Anderson," as the school students knew him, was appointed to Woodbridge Police Dept. in August 1964, served as a Patrolman until 1991 when he was appointed Detective, and was the first Training Officer seen by almost the entire Department. Long before the D.A.R.E. programs began, Brother Anderson provided programs in the township schools which ranged from pedestrian and bicycle safety to drug and alcohol awareness; in doing so, he felt, if he could reach out to one child each day, his existence and the money the taxpayers paid him were well worthwhile. He spearheaded and coordinated many community programs including Neighborhood Watch, Kidcare Photo ID, DNA Testing, Combat Auto Theft, Vehicle ID Number Etching, Dangerous Strangers, and a host of other safety programs. He completed the NYPD Dignitary Protection Unit Course, was a member of the NJ State Crime Prevention Officers, was a Blue Badge recipient and a member of the NJ and NY Honor Legions. The Official Historian of the Police Department, he designed the department flag. Det. Anderson, along with his daughter P.O. Karen Moran, were the first father/daughter duo on Woodbridge P.D.
