Patrolman
Santo (Sandy) Castrovince
12/11/82
Oficer Santo Castrovince
Officer Castrovince was a Navy veteran and a resident of Woodbridge Township for 28 years. He was a member of Woodbridge Policeman's Benevolent Association, Local #38. Appointed to the force on May 26, 1961, he was a dedicated police officer, having served the township for more than 20 years at the time of his death. During his career, Sandy accumulated numerous commendations, from the Department, as well as from citizens he had assisted through the years. He also received three awards from the PBA: one for Meritorious Service, issued to any officer who acts above and beyond normal performance while on or off duty; the second was the Safe City Award, issued to Woodbridge Police in 1977 for having the lowest crime stats for a city with population of 1oo,ooo persons; and the third was an Honorable Service Award for 20 years of service with the Department with no suspension time. Police Officer Castrovince had a "flawless disciplinary record," according to then Chief of Police, Anthony O'Brien. This was considered quite outstanding. Patrolman Castrovince was a real "team" man who always had a cheerful greeting and smile for everyone he came in contact with. He is terribly missed by his son and two daughters.
